Sabzi mandi to refrigerator

It's great pleasure to walk on the roads of vegetable market, talk with people, bargain, select from wide range of vegetables, breath fresh air (away from A/C in big stores) and of course taking pictures. It is so addictive....even though big stores are near by... it's totally a different experience to buy vegetables from the vegetable market. So fresh...so colorful...

For the first time, I took kids with me to the market and they were very excited to see people selling vegetables and the crowd. Here are some pictures of the vegetable market I visit every two weeks.

Man in bluetooth...

Woman under umbrella....

I love the basket to pick vegetables...couldn't resist to reward myself with one..don't ask me why I got it...I just bought it ;-).

Healthy and fresh green leaves...

After one hour of hand picking the vegetables, they make their way home. And here is small vegetable market at home....

Vegetables being sorted...not sure which sorting algorithm I use to sort them. ;-).

Vegetables making their way to basket and bags....

Ultimately their way to refrigerator...peeking out and competing with each other to take them out and cook.

Colorful Diwali

First of all, wish you all a very HAPPY DIWALI.

As we all know, Diwali is festival of lights and more than that... it's filled with colors in many forms. This is my first time celebrating Diwali in Pune. I must say, I really enjoyed Diwali and especially Diwali shopping. After a loooooooong time, celebrating Diwali at home feels good and kids were really excited.

The festive mood started almost two weeks back with Diyas for sale on street side. There were different colored Diyas in many shapes and sizes....

And Diyas that were ready to be colored.....

And roaming Diyas on the four wheel cart....

Not just Diyas, there were small pots too....

Shivaji forts and toy soldiers are something new I never saw before.

Read more at Shivaji killas express pure reverence "Every Diwali mud forts or Shivaji killas can be seen adorning Maharashtrian homes, dazzling and life-like with toy soldiers and miniature animals.

It transports you to an era steeped in history. The idea is to express reverence towards Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the umpteen strongholds he had in his possession......."

Coming to next colored item of Diwali....RANGOLI that appears in front of the door to welcome Goddess Laxmi. And here are some pictures of Rangoli colors on sale...

btw, do you see anything interesting in the following picture?

You can see a man sleeping under the sun and enjoying the fresh open air :-).

And who will forget buying the Puja stuff....

Now coming to the most interesting and exciting part of Diwali...buying crackers. It's more fun when big crackers (I mean kids) give company in choosing the crackers they want ;-). I could see many actresses pictures on the cracker boxes... but the one that captured Harshita's attention was the one with Harry potter on it.

This was our Diwali shopping and enjoyed our time being in Pune. Will blog tomorrow on our Diwali celebrations.. check it out on my other blog Journey Of Learning.
